Preliminary Medicine Residency Track
NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers a one-year preliminary medicine residency track in the Department of Medicine’s Internal Medicine Residency program to provide foundational education for those seeking to complete training in internal medicine before entering residency training in a non–internal medicine specialty, such as anesthesiology or neurology.
The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) code for the preliminary residency track is 2978140P0.
Preliminary Medicine Track Details
Residents on the preliminary medicine track choose to train either at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System or primarily at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn with elective opportunities across NYU Langone locations in Manhattan.
The preliminary medicine residency track uses a 4+2 block scheduling model, which includes a two-week inpatient care block that takes place every four weeks, followed by six weeks of intensive care rotation, night float, electives, and vacation time.
