Department of Medicine Faculty Appointment & Promotion Advisory Committees
NYU Langone’s Department of Medicine has two appointment and promotion committees—one for full-time staff and one for clinical and part-time staff—to evaluate faculty and advise the department chair, Steven Abramson, MD, executive vice president and vice dean for education, faculty, and academic affairs, chief academic officer, on staffing decisions.
The committees develop criteria to determine faculty titles and career paths for newly appointed staff and grant promotion and tenure. They also communicate the process for career advancement to all members of the department.
Full-Time Faculty Performance
Full-time, tenure-track faculty members meet at least once a year with a mentoring committee of at least three senior faculty members to set academic and career goals. They also participate in formal performance assessments with their mentoring committee at three and six years.
